Berlin is a city bustling with creativity. As a “mecca for urban art” that’s home to over three hundred galleries, it’s hard not to be inspired living here.

That inspiration channels itself into everything the locals (and tourists) do, including decorating their living space. @jannis_ft, Berlin-based fashion, lifestyle, and interior design content creator, knows this better than anyone.

Spend any amount of time scrolling through his content and you’ll immediately notice his carefully curated minimalist aesthetic. Classic blacks and whites dominate his feed, with the occasional pop of a red or chrome accent.

Jannis designed his apartment to be simple yet chic. Modern yet vintage. Open concept yet still cozy.

The Overview

Here, we get a peek inside this chic Berlin apartment.

The primary living space is dominated by classic white walls, paired with black furniture and other dark decor pieces to create a striking contrast.

This contrast is softened by a simple beige couch, offering a visual middle ground between the black and white.

Sunlight streams in from tall windows, adding coziness and character with sunspots and harsh shadows. A large, round paper lantern gives the space a light and airy feel while drawing the eye upward.

The Sitting Area

The couch’s neutrality helps to bridge different parts of space, naturally guiding our gaze from one area to another. Black and chrome accents add an eye-catching appeal.

Also notable is the abundance of geometry, with straight edges, neat rectangles, and perfect circles giving this space an effortlessly chic and modern feel.

Next to the couch is a sleek console table, displaying a vast collection of records. A record player on top allows for convenient usage while adding a vintage touch to this modern, geometric space.

Warm wood flooring contrasts with the coolness of the furniture and decor, livening up the area with a natural, cozy charm.

The Dining Table

Less is truly more in this minimalist dining table setup. Four black chairs surround a small white pedestal table for an intimate and homey eating area.

A large floral arrangement helps break up the black and white while matching the space’s simple aesthetic.

The Bar Cart

In the opposite corner of the room sits an on-brand geometric black bar cart, showing off a collection of bottled beverages and perfumes for a sophisticated appearance.

The lower shelf holds additional glassware and drink bottles, combing style with functionality.

Completing this corner is a vertically-oriented abstract painting, tying in beautifully with the apartment’s black, white, and neutral theme while elongating the wall space next to the bar cart.

The Shelves

Old world European charm meats modern minimalism as we move to this stunning corner of the main living space. Detailed door frames and panels share a wall with simple grid-style shelving, the different aesthetics merging into one unique style.

While black and white pieces dominate the shelving, red accents create visual intrigue, the subtle vibrancy quietly demanding attention. A comfy black armchair adds additional seating and space to relax.

The Hallway

The hallway is another beautiful example of classic meets contemporary with its traditional door paneling and geometric black accents. The space perfectly balances cool with cozy thanks to warm lighting and flooring.

Striking shapes take center stage as a grid shoe storage unit contrasts with the organic curvatures of a mirror hanging on the wall.
