Moving across the globe isn’t an easy process. Luckily, there’s always an interior designer ready to help make your new living space one you love, no matter where you’re moving from.

After spending ten years abroad in Amsterdam, one Texan family was ready to call Houston home again.

Pamela O’Brien of Pamela Hope Designs stepped up to design their dream home: a modern, mid-century inspired space with “bold hues” and plenty of room for the kids.

The family fell in love with a 1970s home that boasted a “great location and funky vibe,” she says. To turn it into their dream home, however, major work had to be done – but Pamela was up for the challenge.

The Exterior

The exterior of the home shows off sleek edges and angles, with a bright door to welcome the family home. A cozy backyard provides ample room for relaxing, shielded by a fence and trees for privacy.

The Patio

As we take a closer look around the home’s exterior, a small patio area with a grill and comfy seating makes a perfect place for outdoor hangouts.

Complete with a ceiling fan to keep the family cool in the Houston heat, this little nook provides a beautiful backdrop for making meaningful memories.

The Main Floor

Upon entering the home, we’re greeted with a gorgeous overview of the main living area. A clean white color palette takes center stage, with wood accents that bring warmth and character.

Geometric shapes are found throughout the interior, a staple of the mid-century modern style the family wanted in their new home.

The spacious interior is perfect for this busy family, the first floor having been “gutted to create a wide foyer and great room incorporating the dining and living areas along with an open format kitchen and breakfast nook.”

The Living Room

In the living room, subtle pops of rust and blue liven up the space while bringing a retro touch. Wood trimmed windows line one side of the home, which Pamela stained to match other features of the interior, including slatted wood panels and a study carrel in the home office.

The Kitchen

The kitchen takes a minimalist approach to mid-century design with all-white finishes and chrome accents. A large center island provides additional space for food preparation and lounging, while a breakfast nook in the back corner offers a cozy spot for a meal.

The Master Bedroom

The master bedroom offers a cool and modern atmosphere that’s not without its cozy touches. A gray accent wall behind the bed breaks up white walls in order to add intrigue to the space.

Warm wood furniture and metal decor contrast beautifully with the white and gray tones that dominate the space.

The Master Bathroom

A dreamy master bath shows off a tall window, light flooding into the space and enhancing its open and airy ambiance.

This room continues the white and silver theme found throughout the home, but this time, it’s complemented by sea-glass tiles in the shower and beneath the window.

The minimal design and soft, ocean-inspired hues make this an undoubtedly relaxing place to freshen up.

Boy’s Bedroom

Color “punctuates” this bedroom, creating a playful atmosphere with a navy wall for a sense of sophistication. Bright yellow accents help to make this a cheery and welcoming space for a child.

The Guest Bathroom

A striking twist from the rest of the interior, color reigns supreme in the guest bathroom. An “explosion of emerald green” dominates the walls, shower, and vanity, warmed by gold hardware.

The walls feature a vintage-inspired geometric wall pattern, reflecting the aesthetics of the 1950s through the 1970s.

The Office

In the home office, this unique little nook is a quiet spot to get away and concentrate. Built-in drawers and shelving contribute to a well-organized space while offering extra room for storage.
