1: off-white galore
Here’s a gorgeous idea if you love incorporating wood and cream tones in your kitchen shelf decor. This double shelf format is perfect for having room to both store your essentials and also add in some decorative pieces.
You can see that in this design, I’ve neatly placed matching kitchenware alongside a plant to liven things up – with a decorative knot for a modern touch.
I’m also a huge fan of hanging your mugs beneath your shelves. It makes your space feel like your own little coffee bar, plus it’s super convenient.
2. dynamic diagonals
I love the dynamic feel that placing your shelves on a diagonal gives to a space! This is also a great way to fill more empty wall space without over cluttering it.
Featuring a gorgeous combination of rattan and wood textures, books, a kettle, and an overgrown plant, this design is the epitome of homeyness and coziness in a kitchen.
3. copper tones
Here’s a beautiful piece of inspiration for lovers of warm color palettes. This design uses plenty of rust and copper colored accents, like those gorgeous dinner plates, with some greenery for a striking contrast to those reddish tones.

4. over-shelf lighting
I love this design because of its simplicity yet sophistication.
Single shelf designs don’t have to be boring – they actually present a golden opportunity to make a small space feel full and leave plenty of space to decorate the walls around your shelf, too.
You can see that I’ve spiced things up by adding some modern light fixtures above this shelf to tie in seamlessly with the other black accents in this design.
5. full displays
I think this design might be my favorite in this whole article! For kitchens with longer shelves, this one is perfect to take inspiration from. I love styling longer shelves because there’s so much room to create full, beautiful displays.
You can see that I had plenty of space to include both functional and decorative objects on each shelf!
Those stunning speckled mugs act as the perfect space filler between two taller objects.
6. sleek & modern
Next in my set of kitchen shelf decor designs, I wanted to mix things up and try something other than my usual light, minimalistic style. So, I went with plenty of black tones to bring a modern feel to this opening shelving while softening things up with some neutral accents.
And of course, I’ve included some hanging coffee mugs underneath for a touch of homeyness and sophistication.

7. boho vibes
Boho decor lovers, this one’s for you! For this design, I wanted to encapsulate a relaxed and friendly bohemian feel by incorporating natural textures, warm colors, and round shapes.
I’ve done that by using plenty of warm brown and rust tones, rattan pieces, potted plants, and round decor pieces to bring an open and inviting feel to these kitchen shelves.
8. unique shelving layout
I love this design because of the unique shelf placement! It’s so different from your standard “one shelf on top of the other” design, which I do love, but I always appreciate something new when it comes to kitchen shelf decor.
Because of its uniqueness, a shelving display like this is a statement piece of its own that can tie an entire kitchen together.

9. simple beauty
You can still create a gorgeous open kitchen shelf design even with just one shelf! Some tips to create a shelf that looks professionally styled while working with minimal space include:
Sticking to 2-3 colors. Too many different colors in a small space will make it look cluttered and visually overwhelming.
Use objects of varying heights. In my design above, you can see that I’ve included both short and tall objects for a lovely and visually interesting overall aesthetic.
10. bright, light, & white
For fans of light and airy decor, this next design is definitely one you’ll want to save. I’ve kept the color palette for this one to white, cream, and light wood tones for a crisp and fresh feel.
To add a little life to these shelves and avoid a sterile feel, I’ve added some green touches in the form of moss vase fillers and a small plant.
If you have plates in varying sizes, try placing them next to each other (with the smaller one in front) for a dynamic and professionally styled look.
11. geometric accents
This is a beautiful design to take inspiration from if you love dark accents, have dark shelves, or love using funky shapes in your kitchen shelf decor.
I simply adore the use of geometric shapes here – in the art prints, kitchen utensil holder, and decorative vase.
Add in some distressed and wood textures, and you’ve got yourself an eye-catching shelf display that features a modern style with a bit of a retro touch!
12. simple statements
If you have short shelves without a lot of room for decor, you can still make use of that space! In this design, I’ve kept it very simple – one main decoration per shelf.
I chose pieces with lots of detail and character that can really stand alone on their own shelf. Placing something on its own shelf is also a great way to really showcase your favorite decor pieces or kitchen ware!

13. dark shelving
Dark wood shelves and rattan details are the way to go for a modern yet homey feel in your kitchen shelf decor.
Dark open kitchen shelves give you an opportunity to create some gorgeous contrast in your space by adding some lighter colored pieces on top.
Meanwhile, adding textured pieces in the form of more wood, rattan trays, and house plants are perfect for softening things up and adding a touch of coziness.
14. aesthetic & homey
Triple (or more) shelving displays are super fun to design, but they can be tricky!
My best advice for this type of kitchen shelf decor is make sure everything feels balanced, both on each individual shelf and in the design as a whole.
For example, in this design, I’ve made sure all of my decor elements are spaced out fairly evenly and that there aren’t pieces of similar heights and sizes too close to each other.
This helps everything flow nicely and avoid awkward spots of emptiness or overwhelming clutter. By the way, here’s the link to that adorable kettle you see on the middle shelf!
