This design has plenty of nods to traditional Japanese design, with gorgeous angular details on the coffee table and a potted bonsai tree on top. Also receiving plenty of nods is Mother Nature herself.

 

Thanks to the plentiful wood textures and greenery, this space fosters a friendly and inviting feel complete with an earthy aesthetic.

Lovers of modern, cool-colored, and minimalist interiors will definitely want to save this next design for later. We have a light wood, rectangular coffee table which I’ve styled using dark accents to create an eye-catching contrast in this space.

 

I’ve kept the decor nice and minimal, with decorative branches in a black vase along with some books and pillar candles in black holders for a tiny hint of coziness.

 

The organic shapes and curves of the branches, vase, and candles act as a balancing force to the strict edges and angles of the coffee table.

I’ve styled this piece with a beautiful potted fern and a wood incense burner on top of a homey stack of books.

 

Another important aspect of Japandi is creating a calming and zen interior, and one way to do this is by engaging multiple senses in your design.

 

It’s common to think of interior design as a strictly visual medium, but don’t forget that touch, sound, smell, and yes, even taste (think things like setting candies out on a dish) all play a role in your decor.

 

In this example, the incense burner engages our sense of smell and emits a relaxing scent that contributes to the overall calm atmosphere in this living space.
